Female student electrocuted to death in hostel
Oluchi Anekwe, a student of the
University of Lagos, was on Tuesday night electrocuted to death in her
hostel when a high tension wire fell, according to eyewitness reports.
The 300-level student of Accounting, who hails from Aku in Enugu State, was on her way to her room in Sodeinde Residence, New Hall, when she was electrocuted.
She was immediately rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to eyewitnesses, the pole had been given off sparks recently around the school, while the school failed to make any tangible efforts to fix the anomaly.

45-yr-old gay teacher rapes deaf 14-yr-old boy
A 45-year-old Lagos teacher, Akintobi Kayode, has been accused of raping a 14 -year-old deaf-mute student.
Kayode, 8, Oladelu St., Ogba in Ikeja, was arraigned before Magistrate, Mrs L .Y . Balogun of an Ikeja Magistrates' court for allegedly putting his penis in the anus of the boy.
The accused is facing a two-count charge of rape and breach of peace, offences which the Prosecutor, Jimah Iseghede, said he committed at his residence in May and July.
“The boy, who is deaf and dumb, resides in the same neighborhood with the accused," Iseghede said.
“The
accused always sends the boy on errands and on that day, he also sent
him on an errand and lured him to his house and had carnal knowledge of
him by penetrating his anus.
“Kayode took advantage of the boy because of his condition.
"Due to the pains he was experiencing he told his parents what the teacher had done to him."
The prosecutor noted that the said offences contravened Sections 166 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not-guilty to all the charges
The
Magistrate granted Kayode bail in the sum of N200,000 with two
sureties, one of whom must be a religious or traditional leader, in like
sum.
She adjourned the case to the 30th of September.

Man stabs neighbour for playing loud music
A 33-year-old unemployed, John Ena, charged with stabbing his neighbour with a bottle on her head for playing loud music, was on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos.
Ena,
a resident of No. 13, Palace Road, Alagbado, Lagos, is being tried for
breach of the peace and assault at an Ikeja Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 2, at his residence.
He said that the accused unlawfully assaulted his neighbour, one Miss Elizabeth Okpaku, by stabbing her with a bottle on her head.
"The accused stabbed the complainant with a bottle on her head for playing loud music.’’
Olatunde said that the accused unlawfully entered the apartment of the complainant to stab and damage her property.
"The
accused forcefully entered the complainant's room and ordered her to
reduce the volume of her DVD player, claiming that it was too loud and
was disturbing him in his room.
"The
complainant refused to comply, saying that the volume was not loud, so
the accused forcefully stopped the music by throwing the DVD player
outside and also damaged her generator set.
"He also descended on her by beating and stabbing her with a bottle.’’
The offences, Olatunde said, contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 prescribes a three-year jail term as penalty for convicted offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun, adjourned the case to Sept. 21, for mention.

Federal Govt to introduce national lottery scheme for NYSC
The Federal Government has
'ordered' the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) to introduce
a lottery scheme for members of the National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC).
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Jamila Shu’Ara, gave the order at the opening of a three-day lottery stakeholders’ conference and exhibition held in Abuja.
"The
ministry is now giving a matching order to the commission to introduce a
national lottery scheme for the NYSC," Shu’Ara said.
"The marching order is to with every stakeholder so that we can develop a more socially acceptable product for our citizens.’’
Shu’Ara said the lottery scheme will give corps members an opportunity to benefit from the nation's revenue.
"The potential of the lottery business to the human population cannot be over-emphasised.
"In many countries, lottery is used to positively impact on the lives of the citizenry."
The
Director-General of NLRC, Adolphus Ekpe, said the Commission has signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)
and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for effective
monitoring of lottery activities.

Man with 15" manhood unable to find spouse

Authority finds expo hidden in student's private parts
No fewer than six female students, one of them a final year student of the Department of Library and Information Science, Delta State University, Abraka, were last Friday caught with “expo materials” during examination.
An examiner identified as, Sylvester Okiemute,
caught a final year female student of the Department of Library and
Information Science with incriminating materials during an examination.
Sources
said the student was caught while sitting for an exam on
‘Entrepreneurship and Information Services’, her suspicious moves had
been observed for a while.
It was gathered that
the examiner, convinced that the student was making reference to a paper
she smuggled in, asked her to hand over the paper.
The girl denied and that led to a shouting match between the examiner and the student.
It was later gathered that the examiner dipped his hands into her private part, and recovered the incriminating materials.
The
source who narrated the incident on condition of anonymity, said the
student was earlier caught by another examiner and she pleaded with the
examiner, who later pardoned her.
She was reportedly given another booklet to start over again, but was caught again, 45 minutes later.
