Federal Govt to introduce national lottery scheme for NYSC

The Federal Government has 'ordered' the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) to introduce a lottery scheme for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Jamila Shu’Ara, gave the order at the opening of a three-day lottery stakeholders’ conference and exhibition held in Abuja.
"The ministry is now giving a matching order to the commission to introduce a national lottery scheme for the NYSC," Shu’Ara said.
"The marching order is to with every stakeholder so that we can develop a more socially acceptable product for our citizens.’’
Shu’Ara said the lottery scheme will give corps members an opportunity to benefit from the nation's revenue.
"The potential of the lottery business to the human population cannot be over-emphasised.
"In many countries, lottery is used to positively impact on the lives of the citizenry."
The Director-General of NLRC, Adolphus Ekpe, said the Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for effective monitoring of lottery activities.
